A Humble Birth
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:25 PM :: 318 Views :: Devotional, Faith

Christmas blessings and wishes for a happy New Year.

  4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Small town, simple couple, a tiny baby, just some cloth to wrap him in, a lowly manger instead of a modern crib (with the necessary safety labels affixed)…a humble birth. That’s how our Savior, Jesus, came to earth for us.

How different from our trip through Babies R’ Us a couple months ago or the two baby showers I’ve been to this fall. No, I don’t typically attend baby showers…and, yes, Diane and I are looking forward to becoming grandparents for the first time in January.

I’m thankful our grandchild will be so abundantly cared for, all blessings from the Son of God who became a man so that men might become the sons of God.

Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth to men.
